Skip Holtz enters his third season leading the Birmingham Stallions. Renowned for his strategic prowess and leadership abilities, Holtz has steered the Birmingham Stallions to remarkable success, clinching two consecutive USFL Championships in 2022 and 2023, solidifying his status as one of the most accomplished coaches in the league.
Prior to his tenure with the Birmingham Stallions, Holtz carved an impressive path in collegiate football coaching. He showcased his coaching acumen as the head coach for several distinguished programs including the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, South Florida Bulls, East Carolina Pirates, and the Connecticut Huskies. Holtz's coaching journey began to take shape early in his career when he served as an assistant coach for prominent teams such as the South Carolina Gamecocks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Colorado State Rams, and the Florida State Seminoles.
Holtz's passion for the game was cultivated under the tutelage of his father, the legendary Lou Holtz, former head coach and esteemed commentator. Skip's immersion in the world of football commenced during his collegiate years at Notre Dame, where he honed his skills both on and off the field. After an illustrious playing career, Holtz transitioned seamlessly into coaching, drawing inspiration from his father's illustrious career.
Throughout his coaching odyssey, Holtz has amassed an impressive record, tallying 152 wins and 121 losses as a head coach. His coaching philosophy, characterized by resilience, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, has yielded eight bowl victories and two conference championships, showcasing his remarkable ability to lead teams to success even in the most challenging of circumstances.
In his current role with the Birmingham Stallions, Holtz has continued to exemplify his coaching prowess, guiding the team to unprecedented heights of success. Under his stewardship, the Birmingham Stallions have emerged as a dominant force in the USFL, boasting an impressive combined record of 17-3 over two seasons and securing back-to-back USFL Championships in 2022 and 2023.
